What to expect from Avela’s diagnostic evaluations
01.
Start with a one-on-one conversation between you and one of our psychologists
We’ll take time to understand your concerns, ask about your child’s developmental history, and explore whether they show signs of autism or other developmental differences.

02.
The next step will be gathering more information, with a tailored approach.
Your psychologist will interview or observe your child, based on their needs, developmental level, and your concerns.
We will have you complete validated assessments that help us better understand your child’s strengths and challenges
03.
Review the results with your psychologist and create a plan.
Once we’ve gathered all the information, your psychologist will walk you through the findings. Together, you’ll talk through next steps and create a plan that’s right for your family.

Frequently asked questions
If you have questions, call or text us at 855-328-5931.
We’re available Monday through Friday from 9am-8pm EST.
How long does the diagnostic process take?
The length of the diagnosis process varies based on each family’s needs, but usually is completed across two to three appointments that range from 60 to 90 minutes in duration.
Who will be completing my family’s diagnostic evaluation?
Our evaluations are completed by doctoral-level clinical psychologists. Each of our providers is extensively trained in evidence-based, neurodiversity-affirming care, including diagnostic evaluations with high masking individuals and differential diagnoses (e.g., between autism and ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, and disruptive behavior concerns)—so you can trust that your family is in skilled, compassionate hands.
Does Avela Health do ADOS testing?
At Avela, we offer comprehensive evaluations, with the process tailored to meet the needs of each child and family using a range of assessment tools. These can include interviews with caregivers and the child, observation and/or video review, and standardized tests and assessments. When appropriate, we use a version of the ADOS that has been modified for telehealth.
How can I schedule an appointment?
We make it simple to get started — schedule your first appointment anytime online. The process takes less than 5 minutes.
