Online autism screening test
For TWEENS AND TEENS
For teens, tweens, and parents wondering about autism, our free online test is a simple first step. This screening tool was created by our Master’s and Doctorate-level clinicians to help parent’s understand their teens development.
How should this teen autism screening tool be used?
If you’re concerned about your teen’s development, talking to a trusted clinician is an important next step. Autism can look a lot like ADHD, anxiety, OCD, or depression—especially in older kids—and it’s not always easy to tell the difference on your own.
That’s why it helps to slow down and really look at how your teen is moving through the world. What are they trying to communicate with their behavior? What’s overwhelming for them, and what helps them feel safe?
Our team of experts at Avela Health created this online test to support you in making sense of what you’re seeing—and to help you decide if a formal autism evaluation could be the right next step.
What are common signs of autism in teens?
To receive an autism diagnosis, a person typically shows differences in how they communicate, connect, and interact with the world around them. This might look like:
- Challenges with back-and-forth conversations or social cues
- Differences in understanding or using nonverbal communication, like facial expressions or gestures
- A different experience when it comes to forming or maintaining relationships
They’ll also show at least two of the following traits:
- Repetitive movements, repeated phrases, or specific ways of using objects
- A strong need for routines, sameness, or predictable patterns
- Intense focus on particular topics or hobbies—what some might call a “deep dive”
- Heightened or reduced sensitivity to sounds, lights, textures, or other sensory input
These signs can show up in many different ways, and no two people experience autism the same. This screener is designed to help you recognize some of those signs in your tween or teen—and give you more clarity as you decide what next step feels right.
